چکیده

Cassava mosaic disease caused by cassava begomoviruses (CMBs) remains one of the major constraints to production since it causes yield losses up 100%. Researches showed that some CMBs infecting plants may be coming from non-crop plants. This study intended identify and characterize isolated plant species in Unguja Pemba Islands. A total 108 viral symptomatic asymptomatic leaf samples were collected using stratified sampling. DNA was extracted CTAB protocol followed polymerase chain reaction universal specific primers for identification. Results that, among eleven amplified, four African viruses (ACMV) seven East (EACMV). sequencing Sanger method 97–99% similarities with isolates ACMV EACMV reported elsewhere Africa. Using RbcL MatK barcode genes, Datura stramonium, Solanum melongena incanum found associated ACMV, while Senna occidentalis, Sida acuta Ricinus communis harboured EACMV. These findings are a key understanding epidemiology potential development sustainable management strategies this disease.

Infectivity, pseudorecombination and mutagenesis of Kenyan cassava mosaic begomoviruses.

Cloned DNA-A and DNA-B components of Kenyan isolates of East African cassava mosaic virus (EACMV, EACMV-UG and EACMV-KE2), East African cassava mosaic Kenya virus (EACMKV) and East African cassava mosaic Zanzibar virus (EACMZV) are shown to be infectious in cassava. EACMV and EACMKV genomic components have the same iteron sequence (GGGGG) and can form viable pseudorecombinants, while EACMZV com...

The Diversity of Cassava Mosaic Begomoviruses in Africa

Cassava mosaic disease (CMD) is the most widespread and economically important disease of cassava (Manihot esculenta Crantz) in tropical Africa. A disease of cassava was first described in East Africa in the nineteenth century (Warburg, 1894) and cassava mosaic, as it came to be called, was subsequently reported as spreading throughout the cassava-growing areas of Central and West Africa (Calve...

The use of biolistic inoculation of cassava mosaic begomoviruses in screening cassava cultivars from Ghana for resistance/susceptibility to cassava mosaic disease

The resistance/susceptibility of 5 cassava cultivars from Ghana to infectious clones of two cassava mosaic viruses (ACMV-[CM] and EACMV/ACMV-[CM]) was investigated in this study. Plantlets of cassava cultivars were obtained using nodal cuttings initiated from tissue culture. These cassava cultivars were challenged with both DNA A and B components of the infectious clones named above using parti...
